Jackson, Miss. — Sometimes, you just need to sit around a table and talk about it. That's what Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) experts will do with the launch of the agency's much-anticipated podcast this month.
Health Talk MS airs its first episode today, July 7, with Dr. Dan Edney, State Health Officer and MSDH Executive Director, as the first guest. His interview will cover the preventable conditions killing Mississippians, how we can extend lives and provide billions to the state's economy, and how public health touches every Mississippian every day. Produced in partnership with Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB), the podcast will educate listeners about the services MSDH provides and empower everyone with the tools to lead healthier lives.
“Our goal is to reach Mississippians where they are, and Health Talk MS is one more step toward doing that,” said Lauren Hegwood, MSDH Director of Communications. “We're continually building better, more innovative ways to connect with people across our state. This podcast offers a space for open, honest conversations with the experts leading our public health efforts, helping listeners better understand key health issues and the resources available to them. Through these real, relevant discussions, we aim to empower individuals, strengthen communities and move Mississippi toward a healthier future for generations to come.”
Upcoming episodes include discussions about back-to-school vaccinations, respiratory illness season, mental health awareness, the health risks of vaping, and STI/HIV trends.
