A checklist for parents and teens on starting or returning to school.

School Vaccinations

No decision is more important than protecting your child from childhood diseases.

Children entering a Mississippi school (from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade) for the first time are required to have had the following vaccinations.

Entering 7th Grade

If your child is entering the seventh grade, either by advancing or transferring in, a pertussis (Tdap) booster is now required if they have not received a Tdap vaccination since the age of seven.

Vaccinations are available from the health department clinic in any county, or from your medical provider.

This is also a good time to consider HPV vaccination for your teen. HPV is an easily-spread virus that can lead to cervical cancer and other cancers in men and women. Vaccination now provides highly effective protection in later years. Learn more

Immunization Records

Immunization records for you and your family can now be found online! With the MyIR system, you can review your records and download or print Form 121, required for school entry.

Adolescents' Vaccinations

In addition to Tdap, recommended adolescent vaccinations include Meningococcal and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines.

College Student Vaccinations

College students and young adults need vaccinations, too. Certain vaccinations are specifically recommended for young adults ages 19 through 26. Students should check with their college for any required vaccinations.

Birth Certificates

Students entering school for the first time will need a certified copy of their birth certificate. You can order one through our web site, or contact your county health department or our Vital Records division at 601-206-8200.
