Infant and Maternal Mortality Surveillance
The Healthy People 2020 goal is to reduce infant mortality in the U.S. to 6.0 deaths per 1,000 live births by the year 2020.
The Office of Health Data and Research, through a variety of research methods, seeks to describe the pattern of infant mortality, delineate contributing factors, and identify strategies for reducing Mississippi's infant mortality rate. Health Services conducts research and shares information to promote understanding of factors relative to pregnancy and infant outcomes.
