About PREP Legislation
In 2011, the Mississippi Legislature passed House Bill 999, which requires school districts to adopt an "abstinence-only" or an "abstinence-plus" sex education policy.
This policy requirement is currently part of House Bill 633, in effect until 2024.
The law also sets forth other restrictions on the teaching of sex education in public schools, such as the separation of boys and girls during sex education and the requirement for parents to opt-in in order for their student to participate.
