Retail food regulations apply to the sale of food directly to the public. Caterers must also comply with these regulations.

To report a complaint about catered food or restaurant food safety, you can:
- Make an online report
- Or contact a county health department with details about the time and place of the incident
- Or e-mail details of the time, place, and nature of the problem to food@msdh.ms.gov
Retail Facility Types
Retail food facilities include:
- Restaurants
- Fast food
- Caterers
- Bakery, doughnut and coffee shops
- Mobile food units
- Bars serving food
- Educational institutions
- Temporary special events
The following are not retail food facilities, and should visit our manufactured foods section:
- Food processors
- Food warehouses
- Food vending companies
- Seafood processors
- Re-packers
- Ice plants
