
Thomas E. Dobbs III, MD, MPH
State Health Officer
Background
Dr. Thomas Dobbs has been the State Health Officer for Mississippi since 2018. He is an infectious diseases physician, working at the intersection of public health and patient care, both domestically and internationally, with specific expertise in HIV, tuberculosis and health equity. Dr. Dobbs previously served in other public health roles at MSDH, including District Health Officer and State Epidemiologist, before becoming the State Health Officer. He has an appointment as an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, teaching epidemiology at the School of Population Health and School of Health Related Professions.
Dr. Dobbs holds a Doctorate of Medicine and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
