A checklist for parents and teens on starting or returning to school. |
Childhood Vaccinations No decision is more important than protecting your child from childhood diseases. Children entering a Mississippi school (from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade) for the first time are required by law to have had the following vaccinations.
Vaccinations are available from the health department clinic in any county, or from your medical provider.
Birth Certificates Students entering school for the first time will need a certified copy of their birth certificate. You can order one through our web site, or contact your county health department or our Vital Records division at 601-576-7981. |
Adolescents' Vaccinations While not required, vaccinations against hepatitis and meningococcal disease are encouraged for those entering high school and college.
MSDH Immunization Registry The MSDH Immunization Registry records immunizations received by individuals from public clinics and participating private doctors. Records for many adults and most children are available there for parents and qualified professionals.
Staying Healthy Returning students will be spending their days in crowded settings where germs can spread easily. Simple precautions can keep kids healthy. |
